By the mid-2010s, the Metro Bridge in Kyiv — built by Mostobud in 1965 — was due for systematic capital repair. During this period, condition surveys of the load-bearing structures and project documentation for the future repair were prepared.
Engineers noted gradual resource depletion of the reinforced-concrete arch-cantilever spans, which had carried 50 years of growing traffic and increasing axle loads.
The data and design choices collected at that stage became the basis for the KMDA approval of the capital-repair project in 2019 and the subsequent 2-billion-hryvnia tender in 2024.
