On 22 February 2018, at a plenary session of the Kyiv City Council, deputies passed a resolution renaming the Moskovskyi Bridge to Pivnichnyi (Northern). The decision was supported by 82 deputies.
Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Oleksii Reznikov, presenting the proposal, explained that the move effectively restores the bridge's original design name. Discussions about renaming had been under way since 2015, with variants such as «Troieshchynskyi», «Heorhii Fuchs Bridge», and «Stepan Bandera Bridge» considered.
Designed by the Kyiv branch of the Soyuzdorproekt institute and built by Mostobud in 1971–1976, the structure is the first cable-stayed bridge in Ukraine. Total length is 816 m, main span 300 m, A-frame reinforced-concrete pylon height — 119 m.
