The Kyiv City State Administration began a public consultation on renaming the bridge in the northern part of the capital.
Proposed names included: Pivnichnyi (a return to the original design name), Troieshchynskyi, Heorhii Fuchs Bridge (after the project's chief engineer), and Stepan Bandera Bridge.
The debate paved the way for the official renaming in 2018. The bridge — designed by the Kyiv branch of the Soyuzdorproekt institute and built by Mostobud in 1971–1976 — was the first cable-stayed bridge in Ukraine.
